Ok, apparently I've gotten a few comments saying BatDanNight wasn't "celebrity" Material. Well I doubt people will disagree here. James Rolfe, creator of the Angry Video Game Nerd series. Now let me start out by saying that up until about 2010 or so, I was a fan of his work. But then the quality started to take a huge plunge.
His game glitches episode was when he really lost me, and it became clear he was grasping at straws. *does best Mike Mozart impression* I mean really; The glitch gremlin? That more like something out of a children's cartoon. He even tells us how yo clean the cartridges; yeah because people who still own old school consoles don't how to do it by now.
I'm going to cut this off short to talk about probably his worst review.
AVGN's R.O.B Review
On May 14, 2008; James did an AVGN review of accessories for the NES. At the end of the episode he teases about reviewing ROB saying he'll get to it "Later". Then on May 29, 2008 IG posts his own review of R.O.B, most of AVGN blind fanboys say that he ripped off James by doing it before him, Since James specifically mentioned doing a ROB review. Those same fanboys more then likely forgot about back during the AVGN vs Nostalgia Critic feud, James said "There's no official sign up sheet for reviewing".
Anyway on March 3, 2011, almost 3 years "later", he finally puts out the R.O.B review his fans and blind sheep have been waiting for. What did they get? Pretty much AVGN's petty revenge against the Irate Gamer......5 years late. Seriously watch IG's review & James' back to back. there's too many similarities, it's uncanny.
1. While playing; they both glance over at ROB and how ridiculously slow it is.
2. Both ROBs end up being evil.
3. Both ROBs attack the reviewer.
4. The both defeat ROB by using a reflective surface (IG a mirror, AVGN a U-Force)
5. They get made when ROB kills their character in Gyromite
6. While play Block, they both get pissed when ROB knocks over a tower of blocks.
Sure a few seem to be a bit nit picky, but so were the ones against IG in his Back to the Future & TMNT reviews.
Now although they are similar, both reviews do have their differences;
James' version is more of well........comedic, for lack of a better term(and I use that term loosely). While the IG version, is more bare bones and explaining about ROB. Which James failed to do, I might add. Plus in IG's review ROB didn't talk while in AVGN's he had voice that sounded like the Speak and Spell with a cold.
Now another thing; although it was in one of IG's later reviews; he makes a joke about being Robbed and holding up R.O.B. A Lot of people criticized this joke; but in AVGN R.O.B review; When ROB as for Gyros, James spends a whole minute making a burrito and giving it to ROB. How is that joke not worse? At Least in IG's joke you actually understood it. To me when somone says gyro I think of a spinning device. Apparently a Burrito is a gyro. Maybe down south(I live in New England) they call it that normally, but don't a joke that a whole quarter of your fanbase wont understand.
AVGN: The Movie
Now my biggest gripe about James' his movie. Now He has said he wanted to be a filmaker, and making a movie his AVGN character is ok I guess. But instead of financing the project himself(Which he could do) he instead begs his fans for money. Now some AVGN fans were smart enough to see through James ponzi scheme, but unfortunately most of his blind followers were not. Now a few of the major problems I have with it are;
1. When he asked for money he gave very few details about the financing. (Is he aiming for local movie theater release, National release, straight to DVD, what?) We need to know what he's aiming for, otherwise (like it is now) James can just do the cheapest option, and keep the thousands of dollars left over for himself.
2. The fact that James could didn't need to ask the fans for money in the first place. He makes enough money to finance it himself, if he wants to go the cheaper route. Plus it's not like he's a struggling reviewer. He's on of the most popular and well known video game reviewers on youtube. He didn't need the fans help then, why would he need it now.
Now to wrap it up here, I suspect James AVGN Movie to be a series finale of sorts, since it's becoming increasingly obvious that he is running out of ideas for it. And he is just scrambling to rake in the last bit of cash he can.
AVGN definitely deserves a top spot on the Internet hit list, for going from such a respected and entertaining reviewer, to a desperate money whore, scrambling to milk his bone dry series even dryer.
